History and Physical Facilities of the Faculty of Sports Sciences

With a history dating back to 1959, our Faculty of Sports Sciences is one of the top three most deep-rooted sports academies in Turkey. Our core mission is to cultivate innovative, research-oriented sports professionals who possess a strong sports culture and are dedicated to serving society, by providing contemporary and high-quality sports education in the light of universal values.

A Brief History of the Faculty

  • 1959–1970: Served as the Physical Education and Combat Sports School affiliated with the Turkish Armed Forces.
  • 1970–1974: Operated as the National Team Training Center under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
  • 1974–1982: Functioned as the Manisa Youth and Sports Academy.
  • 1982–1992: Provided education as the Department of Physical Education and Sports under the Buca Faculty of Education at Dokuz Eylül University.
  • 1992: Re-established as the School of Physical Education and Sports, serving as one of the founding units of Celal Bayar University (established by Law No. 3837).
  • 2016: Officially upgraded and transformed into the Faculty of Sports Sciences, following the proposal of the Ministry of National Education and the decree of the Council of Ministers, published in the Official Gazette on November 1, 2016.
